Love, Rock n Roll, & Girl Groups

By Maryjane Perez | 3 March 2023

Girl groups have always provided us with the most glamorous fashion looks and some of the most iconic hits in music history. From Destiny’s Child to Spice Girls to Little Mix and many more, girl groups carve out space in an industry—and a world—that is so often dominated by men. For decades, girl groups have helped young women embrace their femininity (whatever that looks like) and emotional experiences.

These women are proof that dreams can come true and that we are all capable of great success. They continue to blaze a trail for the female artists who follow behind them, and in 2023, there’s a whole new crop of groups killin’ the game.

The Aces

The Aces is an alternative pop group consisting of four members: Cristal Ramirez (lead vocals and guitar), Alisa Ramirez (drums), Katie Henderson (guitar), and McKenna Petty (bass), all originating from Utah. Fans of HAIM and Wolf Alice would enjoy The Aces’ ability to get listeners up and dancing with stunning vocals and groovy instrumentals.

Hinds

Originating from Madrid, members Ana Garcia Perrote (vocals and guitar), Carlotta Cosials (vocals and guitar), Amber Grimbergen (drums), and Ade Martin (bass and backing vocals) form an eclectic band with a rock-sound reminiscent of the 60s. Their style resembles that era, too. Among some of their biggest influences are Bob Dylan and The Velvet Underground – of course Hinds adds their own Spanish twist to these sounds.

My top 3 tracks: Castigadas En El Granero, Between Cans, Chili Town
